develop a technique using DC philosophy appliable to Cohesive
soils.

Improvement of the mechanical properties of a soil is
achieved by the repetition of high energy impacts on a grid
pattern.
The prints are filled with a granular material which is compacted
and pushed by repeated impacts, permitting the creation of large
diameter granular columns of highly compacted material within
the compressible soil.
These columns and the surrounding soil act as a composite material
with greater characteristics than the initial soil.
Equipment is similar to Dynamic Compaction.
The prints created under the high energy impacts are filled
with granular soil which is compacted itself and pushed through
the compressible bad soil.
It permits the creation of large diameter columns of highly
compacted granular material.
In order to increase the column depth, it is possible to pre-excavate
the columns.
The choice of the adequate equipment depends on the energy
required for tamping which is linked to the thickness of soil
to be improved.
