MENARD ACTIVE CONFINEMENT

Menard Active Confinement is applicable to rehabilitation of existing landfill. It guarantees that :

   - Pollution shall remain confined and shall not flow out, contaminating the outside surrounding areas
   - Pollution content within the confined area is not only monitored and controlled but also reduced.
The system requires a combination of various technologies :
   - Cut-off wall and horizontal sealing ensure air and water tightness
   - Vertical and horizontal active drainage network
   - Quality-control and monitoring
Confinement allows to create inside the contaminated closed-box area a light depressure in the gas phase.
As the water table is also lowered, a pressure gradient is created, opposite to the movement of pollution leakage ( inside to outside ), confining the pollution to a limited area.

Pollution content is monitored in real time thanks to a network of sensors connected to a computerized control station.

Pollutants can be treated and safely released within the pollution norms in vigor.
Site can be rehabilitated for further use as industrial complexes as well as recreational landscaping.
The best application of the method so far is the rehabilitation of the Stade de France site for the World Cup 1998.
